Kate is the very definition of an exceptional nurse, which is a true compliment at a place like BCH where there are many excellent nurses. I had a scary hospital stay and then was very sad and scared to be re-admitted for a sepsis scare.
From the moment I arrived, Kate was so kind, caring, diligent, and sweet to me and my mom, who I had made fly across the country for emotional support. When you are scared and vulnerable, the way that caregivers interact with and treat you makes all the difference. Despite being busy and in high-demand, Kate always checked in on me and my family members emotionally, while also providing medicine, water, extra blankets, etc.
Kate would anticipate needs of all kinds and show up with fresh water or an extra blanket before I had a chance to ask for them. She is empathetic and warm and very validating of the patient experience and pain. She listened patiently as I anxiously asked silly questions and took the time to talk me off the ledge many times. I knew that I was safe and so well cared for, it helped me be less scared which is an amazing gift that Kate possesses. Her co-workers clearly respect and admire her too and have talked about what a kind nurse she is but also what an efficient and clinically skilled professional she is.
I did not want to stay in the hospital another night, no one would, but Kate assured me she was working the next evening and because I knew I would be safe and well cared for I felt safe to stay. There is so much more that I could say. Kate is like a ray of sunshine; when she walks into your room you always feel at least a little bit better.
