August 2026 Honoree
Kate Stilwell, BSN, RN-C
I came in Thursday for an induction, and Kate was my nurse on Friday and Saturday. After 3 days of labor and 2 failed epidurals, I finally got to 10cm and was ready to push. The doctor quickly realized my baby was sunny-side up and needed to be flipped. The pain was unbearable, and I was feeling everything as no pain management worked. Kate was there not only as my nurse, but she supported me just as my husband, mother, and sister did. She fought for me and encouraged me as if I were her only family.
They were unable to get my baby flipped, and it ended in a C-section, where Kate hugged me as I got my spinal tap and comforted me after the awful trauma that I had just gone through. I was in pain, but the people I love watching me were in emotional pain. What I went through was hard for her to watch alongside my family. She not only comforted me but also comforted my family through this. She was emotional and made me feel not alone. I would not have been able to get through it without her fighting for me.
The following day as I was in post-partum care she was not my nurse and she was not even on that unit yet she came in any chance she got and literally cared for me and hugged me and told me how strong I was. She genuinely cared for me and my family. I wasn't just another patient to her at this point. Kate is someone that I will forever be grateful for and never forget.

On Thursday, my wife came into the family birthing center to be induced for the birth of our daughter. Kate Stilwell was my wife’s nurse starting in the morning. Kate showed great care and thoughtfulness when taking care of my wife. My wife endured a 36-hour induction process, and the doctor attempted to move our baby’s position while her epidural was not working. My wife felt everything, and it was extremely difficult to watch. Kate helped comfort my wife through the entire process.
Kate’s motivation, coaching, and care for my wife were a great help to my wife in getting through this hard time. Kate continued to check in on my wife even when she wasn’t her assigned patient. My wife and I were deeply touched by Kate’s care and compassion for my wife, and we couldn’t have asked for a better nurse during our stay. My wife and I will never forget what Kate did for us, and she’s the reason we’ll be coming back to the Atrium for our next child.
