#1 I came to Wake Forest after experiencing horribly cruel behavior by both the doctor and nursing staff at the facility in my hometown. My circumstances are indeed unfortunate ones. I’ll get to that in a moment, but coming to Wake has been a true blessing in my life. Here I’ve been treated like I am a human who matters too. I’ve been treated like I’m important. Now on the story of my stay here: I had 2nd and 3rd-degree burns on my hands, wrists, right arm, left leg, and foot. I needed help to function because I was in so much pain I couldn’t walk. After being admitted, I met Katelyn, and somehow we just clicked. She took the time to spend those few extra moments with me, to answer my questions, and hear about children’s lives. She cracked a joke or two with me while dispensing medicine because laughter is an amazing medicine too. Katelyn was so patient with me, taking the time to explain and re-explain everything I asked questions about, no matter how trivial the question seemed. The night she wasn’t assigned to me, she came to check on me. Honoring Katelyn as my night nurse made my nights go by easier. She showed me generosity and concern for my well-being, and I felt safe. 
#2 Katelyn has been the nurse for us a few times since we have gotten to this part of the hospital, and she is just amazing. She is always having us laughing and just is a great person with great energy. We have her tonight, and even though it’s a busy night, she still finds a way to make sure we are ok and get us laughing. She is the best. It was really difficult to pick just one nurse from the team that took such excellent care of my husband. Katelyn is my choice. First, she was always professional. She was very knowledgeable but was willing to say if she did not know. If that happened, she found the answer for us. Having been here before, I know that she checked on us much more than was required. She always had a smile on for my husband and a kind word. It helped him because he tends to get down at night. She was always nice when asked to do something, even if it was not her job. There is not a more deserving candidate than Katelyn. 
#3 Within the three and change weeks I’ve been here, I’ve had a never-ending rotation of nurses. It goes to say that picking a single person as extraordinary from this group should be hard, but it wasn’t. Katelyn by far surpassed her call of duty in all regards. Her kindness is unmatched, and her attention to detail and remembering the little things is phenomenal. She would be someone I truly trust my life with, and I would wish her to treat my wife, son, or other families if they were in my shoes. I’ll never forget her because her kindness will last as a memory with me forever. This is why I’ve nominated her.
