Katie took it upon herself to organize an "adopt the family for Christmas" with her department. Katie organized this entire thing and made sure this family all received gifts at Christmas.
So many of our nurses and staff were impacted by the Pandemic and though I would like to recognize all of our ICU nurses for all they did to care for our critical COVID patients, there is one who really stands out. We had a young married couple admitted to the ICU with COVID, both in very critical condition. The husband was transferred to OSU since he needed a higher level of care. They had 5 young children ranging from the ages of 2 - 13. Sadly the husband did not make it, he passed away in December and Katie took it upon herself to organize an "adopt the family for Christmas" with her department. Katie organized this entire thing and made sure this family all received gifts at Christmas. Through the tragedy this family went through, they were able to see the compassion of the nurses at Avita all through the efforts of the nurses. This is certainly going above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Katie for what you did, we are blessed to have you on our team and you are very deserving of this special recognition.

Additionally, Katie made sure the families of the patients cared for in the ICU who experienced the death of a loved one from COVID, received sympathy cards signed by all the staff. This also was an amazing act of kindness and compassion. You exemplify all the attributes of what a DAISY Nurse represents. You make us PROUD! Thank you! You are an amazing role model to others!

Note: This is Katie's 2nd DAISY Award!
