I was admitted to the OB unit for a scheduled induction. I was 2 days past my due date. Labor was not progressing as fast as needed, so an emergency c-section was performed. The baby kept decelerating. I ended up with a reaction to anesthesia causing me to require fluids and pressors for almost 3 hours to stabilize my blood pressure. I was strong for my baby from that C-section and the next 2 days. Everything hit me on day 3. My exhaustion, my body’s physical needs my emotions, for her and myself. Through me being strong and then at my weakest, Katherine was there. She gave me real and great advice. She filled the “mom role” that I couldn’t have because of covid rules. Everything she advised was correct and the way she handled me through my ups and downs was nothing short of perfect. Since I couldn’t have my mom there no one better could fill that role, but I found it in a stranger. Her bedside manner was amazing. She was on top of her patient's needs and wants as well. She would run to each task as if she was a youngster and her energy and attitude amazed me. I still can’t believe all that has happened in the last 3 days but I’m thankful for the teams that worked with my family. Katherine was extra special to me and for me when I needed it most, considering this was the worst time of my life. Little baby Q has a cleft and needs extra care. I’m so thankful for Katherine and nurses like her.
