Katie sets the bar high yet she is the one cheering the loudest for those that strive to follow in her footsteps.
Nomination #1: I am thrilled to nominate Katie Dillon, BSN, RN, CPN, for The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Katie has been and continues to be a nurse that leads, listens, acts, promotes, and cares in the most consistent and compassionate manner.
Katie has been known around DCMC as the "trach nurse" for many years. She was given this nickname because, for a long time, Katie was the ultimate and oftentimes solo resource for bedside staff, physicians, and families regarding a trach patient or trach education. Katie led the trach program for years with minimal support yet never stopped believing it could grow to be something bigger and better than ever imagined. Katie was essential in advocating for the creation of a "trach team" at DCMC, a multidisciplinary group dedicated to the safety, education, and advocacy of our trach patients. Katie also led an effort to have Dell Children's join the distinguished Global Tracheostomy Collaborative which provides valuable resources and data to help the program grow, thrive, and achieve greatness.
Katie has also been very active in keeping the community educated and engaged. She has coordinated and assisted with community education events for home nurses, DME companies, and others to learn life-saving education while also learning from one another. Katie has been instrumental in keeping trach families engaged not only in times of illness or crisis but also to celebrate their special children. Katie has helped organize special family events so these children and their families can come together for fun and fellowship.
Above all, Katie continues to lead by example and mentor her teammates by staying involved while her role has evolved towards growing and leading the amazing aerodigestive program. She is not only dedicated to her current, former, and future patients but also to her teammates and to the field of nursing. Katie sets the bar high yet she is the one cheering the loudest for those that strive to follow in her footsteps. It's an absolute honor to work alongside Katie Dillon!
Nomination #2: Katie has been a nurse for 25+ years and she is sensational. Katie is iconic, and her bedside manners are amazing. Katie is a great nurse to look up to. Katie has been in SCC since 2008 and she has helped the trach/aero clinics grow into what they are today. Katie is a great patient advocate and a great team player. Katie has a huge heart and it shows when it comes to patient and family care. Katie has been a great resource for both the inpatient and outpatient staff. Katie shares her knowledge and I have learned so much from her. Katie is always cheerful and has an infectious smile. The families trust Katie and they confide in her. Honestly, I can go on and on about Katie, but I will run out of space if I do so. All I can say is that it is such an honor to work with Katie Dillon.
Note: Katherine is also a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses!
