Despite the gravity of the situation, I watched as Katie handled the situation with a special confidence and grace, which not all nurses have.
Katie was the bedside nurse for my daughter when she was hospitalized for respiratory failure due to asthma attack secondary to pneumonia. As a parent, words cannot describe the terror and devastation a mother feels when their child is fighting for their life. As a nurse, I know how stressful it can be to care for a critically ill patient whose life is in your hands. Despite the gravity of the situation, I watched as Katie handled the situation with a special confidence and grace, which not all nurses have. I watched as she paid attention to every detail and every change in my baby’s condition, no matter how minute. She reacted quickly and responded promptly to my child’s needs. Katie and the PICU team anticipated every change and stayed two steps ahead. Not only did she take care of my child, she also cared for me mentally as I was breaking down inside. She kept me informed on my daughter’s care and remained honest with me throughout the whole process (even when some things were hard to hear). My baby is now back home, and thriving. I could not be more grateful to have had Katie as my nurse. I write this heartfelt thank you to her, but words can never express the impact Katie has had on me, as a nurse and as a mother. I will remember her for the rest of my life. Thank you, Katie, from the bottom of my heart.
