CDR Kidde has been an integral independent anesthesia provider for the NMRTC Portsmouth Anesthesia Department as a USU Assistant Professor. She has supported the department in the maintenance of clinical services during deployments and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond her clinical role as a CRNA, CDR Kidde has led the clinical education of 18 Navy Nurse Anesthesia Residents (NAR) at NMRTC Portsmouth as the Site Director. She was responsible for coordinating rotations through 1 primary site and 7 enrichment sites for the USU Nurse Anesthesia Program. She was integral in facilitating the addition of 2 of the enrichment sites, ensuring access to critical clinical skills and specialty cases for the program. Additionally, as the clinical coordinator for Old Dominion University (ODU), Virginia Commonwealth University, and Wake Forest University, CDR Kidde managed clinical rotations at NMRTC Portsmouth for over 45 NAR rotations in OB Anesthesia during the last three years. CDR Kidde’s rotations have resulted the NARs meeting minimum cases numbers to ensure readiness for military services as independent advanced practice providers ready to meet mission requirements.

CDR Kidde’s recognition of clinical expertise goes beyond the operating room. She was the Lead Instructor for the African Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership Trauma Nurse Course in Dakar, Senegal where she instructed 44 students and trained 6 instructors. She is also the Director of the Trauma Nurse Corps Course at NMRTC Portsmouth. As Director, she has certified over 400 Navy, Army, Air Force, active duty, reserve, and civilian nurses in trauma nursing. Her efforts have helped to maintain an operationally ready force and have assisted NMRTC Portsmouth in meeting the requirements as they are pursuing Trauma Center Certification.

CDR Kidde has a proven record of excellence in teaching. She is not only a recognized clinical educator, but her expertise in OB Anesthesia and didactic teaching led her to be an invited lecturer at ODU’s Nurse Anesthesia Program. She has provided their OB Anesthesia lectures in 2021 and 2022. She has already been invited for the 2023 lectures. CDR Kidde, recognizing the need, implemented a preceptor evaluation system to provide feedback and assist in faculty development of staff who precept NARs at the clinical sites for the Portsmouth primary and enrichment sites. She plans to implement the preceptor evaluation system further in the next year for the USU Nurse Anesthesia Program. CDR Kidde implemented an operational training week at NMRTC Portsmouth for NARs to gain exposure to operational opportunities available to Navy CRNAs, to include CVN, FST, Veterinary Medicine, JSOC, and Hospital Ship lectures and field trips. These opportunities and education prepare the NARs for the unique skills needed to perform anesthesia in the operation environment for humans and canines.
