She took the initiative to think about her patient, discuss my son's needs with our family, and make the best decision for him.
After taking our son to see several providers, we brought him to the Cox Monett ER for the second time after a week of being very sick. On this day, our son was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with MIS-C as a result of having COVID-19 a month prior. When no other doctors or nurses would listen to our concerns about the severity of our son's illness, hospitalist Dr. "G" and registered nurse Katherine listened and agreed with us that our son needed to be transferred to the pediatric unit at Cox South. Overnight, Katherine was amazing with my son. She discussed her concerns with me, listened to my concerns, and let me take part in my son's care. His pain medication was set to be administered as needed. Katherine was concerned that he was in enough pain and his fever high enough that he needed it as frequently as it was allowed, and I agreed with her. She took the initiative to think about her patient, discuss my son's needs with our family, and make the best decision for him. I cannot thank her and Dr. "G" enough for listening to a (rightfully) worried mom and taking our concerns seriously. It was their concern and their care that saved his life. He was admitted to PICU at Cox South in Springfield and was released from the hospital two weeks later. If not for Katherine and her care, he may not have made it through. She is an asset to your hospital and an advocate for her patients.
