My husband fell off a ladder putting up Christmas lights. He severely broke both legs and his right knee. He was in extreme pain. He was in the trauma unit and needed surgery on both legs and the knee. The accident happened the day before and he had no sleep and was in pain, and he was very cranky. We were brought into the pre-op area around 8 AM, but his surgery didn't start until 1:30 PM. Katherine was very patient and concerned about him. She dealt with him in a very caring manner, bringing blankets, making sure his vitals were done and checking on him frequently. When I saw he was in more pain, I asked the person at the desk for his nurse and Katherine showed up right away. She repeatedly called the physician to get more pain medication for him. She really cared. She kept him as comfortable as possible while he waited 4 hours for the surgery.
Even though my husband was being difficult, Katherine understood that it is hard to be nice when you are in constant pain. I was very impressed with her professionalism and true caring attention she gave him. She was also concerned for me and brought blankets and juice without being asked. She showed true concern when she asked how I was doing and if there was anything that I needed.
Wow, I felt very good about my husband's care here. Every time I asked for Katherine, she came promptly, and she called the physician several times for pain medication and made sure all my husband's and my needs were met. She was a calming presence during a very upsetting time for me and my husband. She is a very kind and pleasant nurse. She even walked me to the waiting room and showed me where to go while waiting for my husband to get out of surgery. Thank you, Katherine.
