A patient was admitted in January after being diagnosed with cancer. He had been on chemotherapy and they were very hopeful it would provide an extension on to his life to spend with his family. Katherine was the RN who cared for him on several shifts. The family and patient couldn't stop raving about the excellent, compassionate care she was providing not only to the patient but the family as well. They said she was extraordinary and always kept them informed.
Unfortunately, the patient passed away in February with his family and Katherine at the bedside. Katherine truly has an incredible way of caring for the dying and consoling the family. The family was so grateful that they insisted she take $100.00. After multiple attempts saying no to the money, she took the money and immediately notified her manager. Katherine donated the money to the Foundation in honor of the patient. This money will be utilized to assist the needs of our hospital. Watching Katherine every shift, especially this one, is truly amazing. She lives the mission and values every day.
