I came into the shift not knowing anything about this patient. My whole travel assignment here, and I have never received such a detailed/organized/prepared report. Katherine could not have set me up more for success. An entire sheet detailed about his history and present stay with us. She told me about her busy day and how she still took the time to shave, fully bathe, provide wound care, foot care, and lotion the patient. She explained to me that in her past 3 shifts, the patient was not properly bathed or even on new shifts. She walked me in the room and this critically ill patient looked like they went to the spa. She showed me all of her concerns and could not have set me more up for success. In my entire traveling career, I have not seen better care, attention to detail, and going beyond the bare minimum. I told her I was so proud of her and that I hadn't seen nursing care like this in a long time. I then told her she should be extremely proud of herself. We both had tears in our eyes. It was so clear to me that she isn't the type of nurse who comes in and just does her checklist of duties. She advocates, deeply cares, and made this patient feel a little bit more normal and hopefully gave him a little more hope. It really touched my heart and reminded me why I became a nurse.
