September 2021 Honoree
Katherine Schwedler, RN
Kat was assigned to a new ED stroke alert patient. She was able to get him to CT, assessed by the neurologist, prepped, and administered the blood clot dissolving medication, Alteplase, within 23 minutes of presenting to the ED for stroke-like symptoms. Our goal is 45 minutes, and this is a new record of efficiency! Every minute saving additional brain cells. She exemplifies calmness under pressure and is a role model to all of us on how to handle stroke alerts. Later, when praise was given for a great job, she immediately credited her co-works and the whole team. We need more just like her!
Thank you, Katherine, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
