It is expected of a person who has a job to do their job, but then you have those who are passionate about what they do, and it is exuded in the quality of service and care rendered to each patient on a daily basis. I wanted to take the time to share the type of service that was rendered to me by Katherine Shamard during my visit to the emergency room.
Going to the emergency is stressful enough without adding the concerns of COVID-19. I can honestly say that I was nervous about going; however, I was in a great deal of pain and was concerned about the cause. When I arrived at Seton Medical Center, I was quickly checked in and after a short period, I was taken to the back for evaluation and seen by the physician.
Nurse Shamard entered the room with a warm and welcoming smile as she prepared me for discharge. She could tell right away that I was bothered, and she asked me with was wrong. When I shared with her my discontent she immediately apologized and begin explaining to me in detail what may have caused the sudden immobilization and numbness of my left shoulder and arm. She assured me that it wasn't anything dealing with my heart and she provided me with graham crackers so that I could have something on my stomach before taking the medicine prescribed to ease the pain. She even offered me her phone charger so that I could charge my phone to contact the person picking me up to let them know that I was ready. This is when I realized I should not base my opinion of the hospital on one unpleasant encounter.
Nurse Shamard was adamant about providing exceptional patient care. It was evident in the prompt and professional manner in which she handled all my concerns. She embodied the meaning of selfless service which enables the continued success of the Seton Medical Center. For this reason, I feel she is a true DAISY Nurse for a job well done.
