Death and dying are the saddest experience in the pediatric population. This is true for any pediatric death but doubly so when it was at the hands of another. Kate has taken care of one of these patients. At a time of the ultimate loss Kate stayed true to the care of the patient as well as the mother. She cared for the patient not just as her patient but as if it was one of her own Children. Then she took care of the mother just as if it was she herself going through this tragedy. She was there to listen, to cry, to hold a hand, to give words of comfort, and yes to assist in her patient's final journey. I have heard from numerous individuals on how thankful the mother was for Kate. I have heard from many of her co-workers how thankful they were to see Kate caring for the patient. Kate's dedication to others. Anybody would be lucky to have her as their nurse.
