Katherine made an invaluable impression on me as an APP Hospitalist provider. Her commitment to patient care and compassion is indescribable. What makes Katherine so special is her natural instinct to know when to step into a situation and help out another colleague without hesitation or being asked. Katherine's greatest strength is the professional development of others. She is exceptional at reading the needs of all staff while juggling her own patient load; a true gift that cannot be taught. She is an open, eager resource to all the units she is floated to.

Katherine is a positive, supportive resource who only encourages others to rise to their maximum potential. With patients and coworkers alike, she values each person as an individual. Katherine has had several difficult assignments, but one that stands out the most was not even her patient; he was a critically ill and actively dying elderly gentleman. She went above and beyond to help the bedside nurse, as he had a very active assignment. The patient spoke about his faith and his many years as a Sunday school teacher. Faith was very important to the patient. I was actively trying to reach family to no success. We decided to reach out to the on-call Chaplain to come to the bedside to offer prayer support.

While waiting, Katherine took the initiative and offered to pray with the patient, to which he agreed. During her interaction with the patient, he spoke about his church and the pastor. Diligently, she tried to locate the pastor's number on the church website to no success. Little gestures such as this bring peace to patients and families alike. Thankfully, we were able to contact family who arrived at the bedside with the Chaplain. Katherine took it upon herself to locate chairs for all the family members. Katherine is the kind of nurse that you want to take care of your loved one; she is selfless, kind, and an overall empowering nurse. She models all the qualities Augusta Health seeks in its employees. I feel lucky to work alongside her on my weeks on.
