Fortunately for me, Katherine was my nurse and began preparing my medications. She noticed that Potassium was among the medications and pulled it aside.
I would like you to know the professionalism and dedication that Katherine displays to her patients on a daily basis. Her ability to listen and remember special, important medical needs has placed Katherine far and above a lot of other people. I was very lucky to have her as my nurse for such an occasion. I am highly allergic to Potassium in both pill and IV form. So allergic, in fact, that I stop breathing if I am administered the medication in any dosage. This is noted in my medical files, as well as listed in my medical records and with the pharmacy.
In fact, a Pharmacy member came up to see me the day of my intake and went over my medications and allergies, and they were made aware of the severity of my allergies and my reactions to the medications. For some reason, my doctor ordered potassium for me, and the pharmacy filled out the order without checking the allergy list. It was sent up with my other medications that morning. Fortunately for me, Katherine was my nurse and began preparing my medications. She noticed that Potassium was among the medications and pulled it aside. She contacted the doctor and told him I could not take Potassium due to the severity of the allergy. The doctor wanted to change it to IV Potassium, and she told him I was highly allergic to that as well. He told her he would dilute it, and she said that would not work due to any Potassium that would cause me to stop breathing. After several minutes of this back and forth with the doctor, he decided that he would stop the Potassium order.
