She was the only reason I felt safe in the operating room.
Katherine was my 2nd nurse for 2nd shift while I was in labor. Boy, this was the toughest labor I’ve ever had: two failed epidurals, a temporary spinal tap. I was in so much pain. She didn’t leave my side when it got really bad, but rather offered everything they could for me. Even just the hugs and kind words meant so much to me.
Finally, after everything at 10 pm, I called it quits and wanted a C-section. I was so nervous and scared. They were not letting anyone in there with me because they were putting me under general anesthesia. But Katherine was right there with me and comforted me and kept telling me to breathe. She was the only reason I felt safe in the operating room.
Katherine took my phone for me and took pictures the moment my daughter arrived since we all had to miss it. She held my hand in comfort as I was screaming and crying from the pain and as they were putting me under. My mom and husband stood outside the room waiting for the nurse to come out and tell them the good news. She had promised that as soon as my daughter was born, they would be right out with her. Katherine waited until I woke up to leave and tell me goodbye because her shift was done. I appreciated her so much. I hope she knows this and sees this with a smile. I will never forget her. Ever.
