Katie advocated for her patient and pressed the doctors over and over until ENT came to assess him.
Katie went above and beyond for her patient back in November of 2023. During her shift, she knew in her gut that something was not right with her patient. The patient expressed that it was hard for him to breathe and that he had been wheezing.

This patient previously had issues respiratory-wise and was intubated on the floor. After being transferred back to the unit, he quickly began to have respiratory, but medically was being treated with breathing treatments and anxiety medications.

The day Katie had this patient he voiced it was very hard to breathe. This patient had discharge orders and no IV. Katie advocated for her patient and pressed the doctors over and over until ENT came to assess him.

This patient’s airways were becoming compromised, having two narrowed areas. This patient was transferred to the PICU and intubated. This patient never came back up to the unit because of respiratory complications.

I truly believe that if Katie hadn’t advocated for her patient like she had done that day, this would have been a different story to tell
