Honestly, any patient would be blessed to get "Kat" as his/her nurse.
As a parent, when your child is sick and you are helpless to help them, it feels overwhelming. And when you've spent months investigating a rare, painful disease - in the middle of a pandemic, when your family (siblings) are separated for weeks on end - the exhaustion is crushing. That's when you need something "extraordinary." You need a light of hope. You need someone who not only will listen and advocate but also someone who is compassionate and competent.
For us, we've had amazing nurses throughout our inpatient stay, but there was one particular day when nearly everything we were working on for our daughter (to improve her health) was tremendously difficult and challenging. That was the day we needed "Kat". She was a special gift! A light of hope. She listened, advocated, was both compassionate and competent - and, truly, she was extraordinary! We can't even begin to tell you the energy and joy she brought with every request that we made as a family. From every angle and with every obstacle, she went above and beyond - and it brings tears to our eyes to recall all that she did for us in our moment of need. It was the kind of lasting, care-changing impact that will never be forgotten! She made countless phone calls, listened to our care plan discussion, intercepted and corrected discrepancies that emerged, and made sure to advocate and connect us with additional resources to get the best care for our daughter. Honestly, any patient would be blessed to get "Kat" as his/her nurse. We will never be able to repay her for the excellent care that we received during such a pivotal and important day in the life of our family. Thank you for everything, Kat!!

**This nomination was submitted from a nurse, who translated in Arabic on behalf of the mother wanting to recognize Kat.**
She helped me with everything. She is a wonderful, wonderful, nurse. She helped me in every way. She gave me the comfort I have been looking for. She made me feel comfortable, to the point when I go home I will miss her and wish she was with us. I want to thank her for her hard work and dedication. In the 3 days I've been with her she has been wonderful and made me feel so good.
