Being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the tender age of 7 has caused me to go through many hospitalizations, physicians and nurses. Some of these experiences were traumatizing. I am 26 years old and now suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. When Ms. Kathie walked into my room and introduced herself. The very first thing she asked me was: "So tell me something you are interested in or tell me about your hobbies." I was taken back, and I thought to myself: She cares! Then Ms. Kathie said to me: "If you need anything, big or small, you call me, and I will be there." Within two sentences she had already made me feel important and cared for.
It doesn't stop there! I had a procedure scheduled the next day. I previously had this procedure at another hospital and had a scary experience. Ms. Kathie asked: If you don't mind me asking, was there a specific traumatic experience that triggered the PTSD?" I told her about the experience. Ms. Kathie looked me straight in the eyes and said: "With me as your nurse, I will never let anyone do that to you. I understand you." I had a nurse who I could trust with my life. I felt so safe. She never made me feel unimportant and never once neglected me. She is extraordinary. She listens to her patients and advocates for them. This is why Ms. Kathie 100% is a DAISY Nurse.
