We could only wish there were more nurses who could show the clinical excellence and outstanding compassionate care that Kathleen Anaya showed to us!
My wife and I are from out of town. I was here for a cardiac ablation. My wife is usually the one dealing with health issues. I’ve always been the one taking care of her, but this time the tables were turned. It’s not normal for me to try to put something like this into words because there aren’t enough words to explain what an amazing, compassionate, knowledgeable, incredible, loving human being this nurse is.
Kathleen was my post-recovery nurse. What makes her so amazing and compassionate to us is that she was supposed to get out of work. I believe it was her day off anyway, and she talked about going to her daughter’s volleyball game after work. Towards the end of her shift, she needed to change the bandage on my groin artery and remove the stitches. Unfortunately, I was one of the few who started bleeding, and I mean a lot of bleeding. My wife was in tears, knowing that this could happen when we went back to our hotel room. This special nurse took all the time needed to explain to my wife and me what to do if it happened at the hotel. She took extra care and made sure my bleeding was stopped, and told us that she wasn’t going to pass me onto another nurse; she was going to stay with us until the bleeding was completely stopped, and I was discharged. She treated us like she would like if we were her own family members. She is an excellent nurse, very compassionate and loving. This one gesture of her staying with us made all the difference in the world. She was never in a hurry and took the time to make sure we understood everything and emotionally supported us, especially my wife.
We’ve been in and out of hospitals for many years, especially with my wife’s condition, and never have we met a nurse who understood her job so well and was so compassionate and loving! It is so very important to my wife and me that she receives this DAISY award and to show that her and her family’s sacrifice makes such a big impact on the health and emotional well-being of her patients and their families! We could only wish there were more nurses who could show the clinical excellence and outstanding compassionate care that Kathleen Anaya showed to us! She took us to the car and gave my wife a hug, very emotional for both of us, just to say goodbye to her.
