Kathleen was our first main nurse in this unit and has been with us through the duration of our stay. She quickly became very attuned to baby and was able to pick-up what she might need. She was very supportive of our decision to allow natural death and tried to keep the mood positive. Once she realized I was not sleeping, she would come in every hour and often more frequently, so I could rest. On nights when I was here alone, she offered to sit with me so I wouldn't be alone. She would stay a little and talk when she came in as well. One night, we thought baby was going to pass, Kathleen was quick to call palliative care and the chaplain for us and stayed till they arrived. Most certainly, at the end of her shift before her time off she let me know that she had left her information with the other nurses and to please have them call her if anything happened. She was willing to come and be with us even on her time off.
