Kathy was so kind and compassionate with her handling of my grief and she set up a remote telephonic video call and allowed me the access to speak and pray with my friend.
I am writing this letter of appreciation regarding the care that was provided to my lifelong childhood friend. This letter is to document and memorialize the excellent nursing service that was provided by ICU nurse Kathy Benson.
My friend was hospitalized in April of 2022, during the 3rd year of the pandemic, and I was unable to be there in person and say my farewell’s due to my own medical restrictions. I became very grief-stricken realizing that I was unable to support my friend on the last part of her life’s journey. I called the hospital to get updates regarding her condition, and was transferred to her ICU nurse, Kathy Benson. Kathy was so kind and compassionate with her handling of my grief and she set up a remote telephonic video call and allowed me the access to speak and pray with my friend. In doing so, I witnessed the remarkable care given to my friend by ICU nurse Kathy Benson. Kathy was being verbally sensitive with what was being said in front of my friend-who was unresponsive at times, yet still, alive-and presumably still able to hear (and even possibly) able to comprehend subconsciously. Kathy allowed me to visit my dear friend several evenings during her hospitalization and went over and beyond with her patient care and visitor-customer care regarding her assistance to my needs. Kathy’s compassionate care greatly demonstrated and accentuated the professional service of my friend’s hospitalization at San Antonio Regional Hospital.
Kathy’s care was so impressive that my friend’s family mentioned her by name, “Nurse Kathy” and thanked her during my friend’s burial service. Kathy is to be commended for her outstanding visitor-customer care and the over and above service, she provided me during this most delicate time in the end-stages of life of my friend and for allowing me to facilitate the emotional and spiritual closure that I needed. This is a tribute to Kathy Benson of the Intensive Care Unit at San Antonio Regional Hospital.
Kathy is an excellent example of what an ICU nurse should be, demonstrating a stellar work ethic, outstanding patient care, excellent visitor customer service, and support to my friend’s family and friend’s-but, especially in these days of the pandemic where tele and video communication is the only option for some people such as myself. In my final days and hours, I can only pray that I have a nurse like Kathy Benson.

I’d like to provide commendations for Kathy for the excellent care she gave my mom during her stay in the ICU. Kathy was not only good to my mom but was also very caring, kind, and compassionate towards me during this time as well. She gave me comfort and allowed me to have as much time with my mom as I needed. Kathy was the one who gave me the call once my mom passed on and I wouldn’t have wanted to hear from anyone but her.
