Over the next few days, she checked in on me and my grandma - out of concern for us and not because she had to.
When my family and I met Kathleen, it was near the end of her shift. My grandmother (like my mother to me) had begun to decline and it was overwhelming, to say the least. Kathleen did not walk away, instead, she stayed with me until my uncle arrived, and then she stayed some more until we were settled. Over the next few days, she checked in on me and my grandma - out of concern for us and not because she had to. One day she saw me waiting for the elevator and when I saw her, as I was holding my grandmother's belongings, I broke down. Again, she sat with me until I calmed down and could drive myself home. Over the last couple of years, we have had many experiences with my grandma being hospitalized and we have been fortunate to have good experiences. Kathleen's genuine concern for our family, for my grandma, is beyond any other experience. There are no words to describe how much her kindness, knowledge, experience, and caring have meant to us. She has been an invaluable source of support to us in a very difficult time. I could write a very long list of all the little things she has done for us and my grandma - way more than what could fit here. In the end, were it not for Kathleen, I may have missed being able to say goodbye to my grandmother and hold her hand as she passed. I consider her a part of our family. I will always be grateful for meeting her, for her compassion, and caring.
