This letter formally nominates Professor Kathleen Johnston, MSN, RN for the Daisy Faculty Award given by the School of Nursing, at California State University ? Dominguez Hills. This exceptional individual is highly deserving of this honor. Professor Johnston's impact on students and her influence on their futures and the CSUDH School of Nursing is nothing short of phenomenal. Over two decades ago, a State Wide Nursing program existed in California. Despite having educational opportunities, no degree could be confirmed to these nurses seeking to advance their nursing education. It was through the vision and great efforts of Professor Johnston and her contemporaries that CSUDH founded the Associate to BSN program. Nurses from all over the State of California were now able to receive a BSN from CSUDH. While the faculty of this program resided and taught in many locations throughout the State, Professor Johnston remained based at CSUDH. She worked tirelessly to ensure that Nursing was represented on the campus. It is through her dedication and perseverance that the CSUDH Nursing Department survived, grew and has developed to what it is today. For Professor Johnston, the Nursing Program was her student. Her vision to establish CSUDH as the Degree Confirming site for the State Wide Nursing Program has provided education to thousands of nursing students. Her belief that all nurses should have access to ongoing education demonstrates her commitment to equal opportunity, compassion and respect for the working nurse. The CSUDH School of Nursing has graduated hundreds of nurses who are now BSN and MSN prepared. The ramifications and long reaching impact of this cannot be underestimated. If there was ever an individual of whom it could be said influenced the future of nurses, that individual would be Professor Johnston. It is with great pride and gratitude that Professor Johnston is nominated to become the recipient of the 2010-2011 CSUDH Daisy Faculty Award.
