Kathleen was my nurse when I was dealing with an infection from a non-sterile surgery done at another hospital. She was with me when I couldn't control my bowels. I am 19 and have severe PTSD due to sexual trauma, so this was incredibly distressing for me. Kathleen's patience during this time and her ability to connect with me, make me feel safe, and bring me back out of a horrible PTSD episode is just a snapshot of her kindness and dedication to her work. She truly has a heart of gold and she is made for nursing. She is everything a nurse should be. I will never forget sitting in my bathroom sobbing after having an accident in bed and Kathleen building trust with me before opening the door and coming in. Once that trust was established, she consistently reminded me that I wasn't alone and that we were going to get through this together. She is the first medical professional I have ever felt 100% comfortable with. She was able to connect with me on a personal level by sharing some of her own experiences which made me feel less alone. As a 19-year-old alone in the hospital 300 miles from home, this meant the world to me. I could go on and on about how wonderful and naturally skilled Kathleen is. From her demeanor to her clinical abilities, I can proudly say Kathleen Kelly is the best nurse I have ever had and she is a true DAISY Nurse. I truly hope her greatness is recognized.
