I'm not sure if Kathy is aware, but I am an assistant manager of a sister hospital in the ER. I had my first surgery, and I was quite nervous about it. She put me at ease, made me comfortable, and even had me laughing. Within the next week, after complications, I was back for a second surgery. Kathy was not my nurse at that time, but came over and again helped put me at ease. I was in terrible pain and frustrated to be back again so soon, and she made sure I had everything I needed to make me comfortable prior to my procedure. She even had a therapy dog come visit me to help ease my anxiety before this next procedure. Her spirit is what nursing is and should be all about. She made me laugh, comforted my tears, and just made me feel like she genuinely cared about me. She left such a positive impact on me, and I will never forget her or the time she took to help me through this second procedure. I recommend her for the DAISY Award and for truly being an amazing nurse! I hope the next generation of nurses can learn from her so that other patients who may not know healthcare and how it works and what goes into it can feel the comfort of a true nurse!
