... Kathie was nominated by the family of one of her patients who said "Thank you for this opportunity to celebrate Ms. Kathie. My grandson, who is 18 months old, had surgery and Ms. Kathie was his nurse. She was our "new angel friend" for the day! During the stay in PACU, she exhibited true empathy, a GREAT sense of humor, and compassion which I could see wasn't just part of her job, but her nature. She's a human first, mom, and professional employee and she demonstrated all of these.
It was a trying time for our family and I was able to take a step back as a nurse myself and just be the Grandmom. Ms. Kathie related to us on a professional and personal level. She was also informative about our little one's road to recovery and what was next after leaving PACU and going to PICU. She didn't appear 'hurried' in any way, yet her care was professional. She's knowledgeable, funny, & compassionate and I know an asset to the PACU team. Thank God for nurses like Ms. Kathie."
Kathie's manager confirms these virtues and adds that "She is a great team player. She has a positive attitude, and a great demeanor. She is an outstanding nurse with excellent assessment skills and the ability to handle any patient crisis that occurs in the unit." It is evident why Kathie deserves this award!
