I nominate Kathy Melancon for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Kathy is one of our Nursing Supervisors. She was the first staff member to receive a managerial certification. She has been a NWH staff member for over 33 years. She is a founding member of The Nursing Credentialing Council and one of the creators of The Nursing Clinical Ladder and has helped to create the other recognition ladders that have followed. Kathy is the mentor for the Nursing Credentialing Council. She is our confidant. She is our calming voice of reason and our go to person for any discrepancies or difficulties. She helps us to maintain the integrity of the Nursing Clinical Ladder and the PCA/Tech Ladder.
Kathy is a strong presence for all Credentialing Council activities, often coming in on her off time to participate. She is the force behind setting up the activities around Nurses Recognition Week and PCA/Tech Week. She is a fixture at all our award ceremonies. Kathy is one of our Hospital's unsung heroes. She is always present and supportive, but rarely acknowledged.
Kathy is a strong supporter of the DAISY program. It is a well-deserved honor for her to receive our first DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
