Kathleen made it her personal mission to collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team so that he could have the best possible outcome.

We had a patient on 4WNS who had an unfortunate event in the ED, spilling coffee on himself, suffering third-degree burns on his back. When he came to our unit, Kathleen went straight to his room to introduce herself, making a special connection with him through her empathetic and compassionate approach. The patient's plan of care shifted throughout his stay and Kathleen made it her personal mission to collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team so that he could have the best possible outcome. I watched Kathleen pour 100% of her energy into coordinating with the case management, hospice, wound care, the physicians, and the nurses.

Not only could I tell that Kathleen had made an impact on this patient, but the patient had made an impact on Kathleen. I witnessed Kathleen take time out of every single day to check on him and make sure he was comfortable. She went out of her way to ensure he was able to communicate with his wife and caregiver since visitation was restricted at this time. At the end of the patient's stay, he looked at Kathleen and stated, "I see what you have done for me." Kathleen deserves recognition for being an exceptional Assistant Nurse Manger and someone who many people look up to as a true compassionate leader with a kind heart and love for what she does.

***

I just wanted to tell you about you ANM, Kathleen. You already know she is excellent, but I wanted you to hear it from me. ALWAYS she stops me in the hallway to ask about wound patients and follows through to make sure what I have suggested is communicated. What I most want to share is the following: Last week there as a consult for a patient with a coffee burn. She knew I was on the unit and came into the room. She not only came in the room but she helped me with the patient, was kind to the patient, she assisted the nurse in the rest of the care so that I could move onto my next patient, she took my suggestion to move the patient closer to the front nurses' station, communicated a list of recommendations with the hospitalist.

Yesterday, I returned to follow up on the patient, and AGAIN, she came in the room and listened to all my recommendations. The patient had been moved near the front nurses' station. Kathleen always has TIME and COMPASSION for staff and patients. She was an excellent staff nurse prior to her new ANM role, but NOW she is an EXCELLENT ANM.
