A Skaggs obstetrics nurse, Kathryn Gubin, is honored with the DAISY Award after being nominated by a new mom who was comforted by the nurse on two occasions – once in the hospital giving birth, and a second time on the side of a highway following an accident.
The patient who explained how Kathryn comforted her during the birth of her baby, letting her know her baby was fine. Those words, “Your baby is fine” were music to that mom’s ears a second time following an accident involving herself, her husband and their newborn baby. Kathryn had pulled over to the side of Hwy 13 to help the family, checking to ensure they were okay.
Her next step went above and beyond. While the mom was taken to the hospital and her husband left to give his details of the accident to police, Kathryn offered to take the baby home and care for him until his father could pick him up. “I was so scared for my baby the day of delivery and the accident,” explains the mom. “Both days Kathryn was there with her care and concern and true love for our baby too”.
