Katie was my wife's daytime nurse for her second hip replacement. She personifies the ideal nurse, a role model to which nurses have all aspired in our professional lives. She knew how to take care of my wife in an expert, reassuring way without being intrusive. I knew she was always around, but not overly visible, unless she was needed. Being a nurse myself, I was confident Katie would deliver seamless continuity of care and I would arrive the next day to my well-taken care of physician wife. Katie connected with us on a professional and personal level immediately. This is a story of quiet competence, so rare. I still remember Katie's unfaltering, infectious smile as she took care of my wife without a hint that she had other patients to care for. I hope she is assigned to me if I ever need hospitalization.
