My 16-year-old son was involved in a truck accident in KY. He was flown from the scene to U of L Hospital. He had brain surgery that day. All of the nurses in the ICU were amazing and we are very grateful. They were very compassionate. There is one nurse that stood out above all the nurses. Her name was Kathryn.

Kathryn worked during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Kathryn came in when the doctors did and talked with each of them about N. She contacted us about getting a therapy dog for our son to cheer him up. Kathryn asked to see pictures of our four boys when we were talking about our family. She heated up his macaroni cup and mashed potatoes when the electricity was out and we could not get a tray delivered from the cafeteria; she also brought him a piece of her pizza. When my family couldn’t come to sit with him so my husband could take me to the hotel to get a quick shower, Kathryn stepped in and said she would pull her computer outside his door and work on her charts. I really didn’t want to leave even though the hotel was only four minutes away and I would only be gone for around thirty minutes. Kathryn assured me he would be okay and that she would call my cell if he needed anything.

Kathyrn also cleaned the toilet in the bathroom for him. She had called the cleaning department twice to come to clean the mess off the toilet from another guest, but they must have been busy because they never came. Our son was determined he was going to the bathroom, and I appreciate her taking care of the bathroom. He was unable to see due to his injuries so I had mentioned that maybe physical therapy could bring something for him to fidget with. Once again Kathryn went and contacted them. Within an hour he had something to squeeze in his hands. Kathryn helped in any way she could in a traumatic situation, and as a Mom, I will never forget all she did for my son and our family.
