Ms. Kathryn Williams is the 2017 recipient of the DAISY Faculty Award.  When we asked for nominations for deserving faculty, Kathryn received not one nomination, or even two or three, but SIX nominations from students. When students describe Kathryn, they use words like caring and compassion, we are blessed, goes above and beyond, and has a passion for nursing. To quote her students, they say, "She consistently went above and beyond what was required of her in regards to being our faculty. If you were to ask anyone from our cohort why Kathryn deserves this award, they would tell you of the time she took two hours to help us better understand hemodynamics and organized for us to meet with a respiratory therapist to learn about ventilators and their settings. They would tell you how much she truly cares for her patients and her students every day on and off the unit. She connects with all her patients in a way that creates a therapeutic environment that brings a smile to their face. She exhorts her students to increase their knowledge through research and refine their skills through practice all the while making herself available in any circumstance. Throughout clinical and immersion, she constantly worked to educate us, encourage us, and push us to be the best nurses we could be. Though all my instructors from ASU were wonderful, Kathryn stood out in the way she was truly present with all of her students and advocated for us beyond anything I could expect. Her compassion, humor, and passion for education inspires me to strive for excellence in how I care for my patients and to further my knowledge so that I may provide the best care I possibly can to all of my patients."
