My mother was recently a patient at your facility. During her stay as an inpatient on the 5th floor, the care provided was adequate most of the time. However, I would like to point out what I, as a former healthcare professional at Northside Duluth Hospital, consider as exceptional care.

A fall and fractured vertebrae necessitated her transport to your emergency room via ambulance where she was immediately admitted as an inpatient. Her age, of 93, and some dementia put her at a high risk of falling. To ensure her care and safety, it was necessary for me to stay with her 24/7.

During her stay, I was able to monitor her care and the staff at all times. The care from one individual, Nurse Kathy Duren, was outstanding. At all times during her shift, Ms. Duren was very proactive. Instead of having to make calls to the nurse’s station for care, I found that she visited the room often without requiring me to call. Her attitude and demeanor were always courteous, and friendly, and she showed genuine concern for her patient. Those are just a few of the numerous other examples of her positive attributes. Although most of the staff did meet my minimum expectations, she far exceeded all expectations.

In essence, Ms. Duren exemplified what I trust to be the qualities you wish all your employees would exhibit. In grateful appreciation, I heartily commend her for the service she provided to me and my mother during a difficult time.
