I have had a history of cardiac issues that have required that I have a cardiac catheterization every several years to monitor a blockage I have in the left artery of my heart. My father passed away when he was only forty years old from what doctors think is the same blockage I have. After recently completing another stress test, it was not clear if my heart was functioning as it should and I was told I needed another cath.I was concerned because I thought and my doctor did as well that the blockage in all probability had gotten a bit worse and open heart surgery would most likely be needed.
So my cath was scheduled two weeks before Christmas.I don't have much family and worried who would take me and worse yet, if I had to have surgery, who would take care of me.I was very scared and had a lot of planning to do.Part of my planning was to let my boss, Kathy, know that I needed a cath and I had to request PPL and possibly an LOA.If the cath proved that my blockage was worse I was not going home from the hospital. When I sat down with her and told her she said without even asking… "I will take you".I certainly didn't expect this and when I hesitated, she insisted she was going to take me and that was that.
Not only did she take me but while my cath was delayed for four hours, she never left my side. She talked with me the entire time getting my mind off what was lying ahead and kept me calm. After my cath was over I received some wonderful news that I did not need to have surgery at this time.I was very grateful and Kathy took me home and made sure I was settled. The kindness and compassion that Kathy showed me was above and beyond her duties. She used her own valuable PPL to be with me.She was my angel.Because of her I wasn't afraid in those grueling hours of waiting.Because of her I did not feel there was no one beside me.Because of her I am a better person because I strive to be like her.
