I have PCOs and it takes a lot of work for me to get pregnant; six years for this pregnancy, my third and my husband's first. I was put on modified bed rest at 10 weeks due to cervical problems. The only time I got out of the house or off the couch was for one of our many appointments in Dallas at the high-risk OB or here at Dr. C's office. We were told it would be a miracle to make it 20 weeks. We were told weeks 18 to 23 were the most critical because our baby would be big enough to affect my cervix and not big enough to save. It made it difficult to connect to the life inside me. We made it to 37 weeks! Our baby had to be taken early because my fluid and white count were high, but we made it. He was born sick and his lungs not ready. That's when the NICU team stepped in. I would like to thank each and every one of you, your team as a whole made us feel informed and as comfortable as you can be in this situation. Everyone was kind and supportive in such a difficult time.
Kathy Fleischhauer is the mother of a NICU baby herself. She knows how this feels. I could not have slept nights like I have if she had not been there for us. I know when I leave at night that Kathy is caring for him and giving him that special love and affection that he needs so much. I know when she is here she requests to care for him and genuinely cares for him and the outcome of his story. Through all of our stay, we have been cared for by each and every person. I feel so bonded with our son and that is because of all the special people working on this unit. We thank all of you with our whole hearts. The kindness, compassion, and care you have given to us is so appreciated.
