I would like to recognize Kathy for the phenomenal work she does for our patients. There have been multiple instances in the ICU where there is a difficult situation, and Kathy gets consulted when the patient has a poor prognosis. She speaks with our patients and their family members with grace and compassion. On one specific date, I received a 86 year old patient from an outlying facility, and we had limited information on where the patient lived and any family contacts. Kathy came back to the ICU promptly and sat down for over an hour and obtained information from the outlying facility, received contact information for family members, and then called to update them on the patient's condition. I can't thank her enough for all of her hard work doing these things while we spent the afternoon trying to stabilize the patient following a large GI bleed. She also came back after her normal working hours and called to give the son an update on the patient's condition. Because Kathy went out of her way to accomplish these things, I was able to focus my time on the patient's critical condition. This is only one of the many positive interactions that I've had with Kathy.
