I work with Kathy every day. She is the glue that holds the department together. The pain patients can be a challenging group of patients. We can get 50+ phone calls a day. I have listened in on some of these calls and how repetitive they can be, how hostile they can be, and how pleasant they can be. She handles them all with the same tone, kindness, and helpfulness. We sometimes see 50+ patients a day. She keeps the day running smoothly. The provider schedules are full. Most of the patients know her by name or "the little nurse." She is friendly to them and knows things about their life or their story. She goes above and beyond getting meds authorized for them. She is just good with them and has developed a relationship with them. She also does other tasks in the pain center. She is the charge nurse. She schedules both local and operating room injections- keeping those days full. She does all post-injection phone calls and documentation of those calls. She is the department's computer guru. With the new provider(s), she assisted in getting them added to Meditech and Athena (she was instrumental in that). All while providing care to our patients. She does these tasks at the end of her workday. She is the after-hours party planner, which is super important on some days. She exemplifies what one should strive to be as a nurse and is fortunate she works in pain.
