The mother of our patient sent in a Thank You for the staff who worked on her 15-month-old son in the Peds ED. He had a rare disorder that only 1 in 40-60,000 children have. He presented to the ED in acute respiratory distress and progressed to cardiac arrest. The Peds ED team worked for 2 hours to stabilize him so he could be flown to the PICU at IFH. She wrote:
Please pass on my Thank You to the people who were there that morning. I thank God for all of you. Because of the emergency team, I got to say goodbye to my son on my own terms. Because you all saved his life, even if only temporarily, I got to have him for one more week and I was the one who held him when he died, rather than watching him die on a table under traumatic circumstances. I can never thank you enough for what you did for us. A special Thank You to Kathy Kulinski.
