She made sure to tell me repeatedly how excellent all the doctors and the anesthesia team were and how confident she felt that they would take the absolute best care of me. It gave me so much comfort to hear that, knowing I was terrified.
I was coming in for surgery. I was so anxious, nervous, and scared. When I arrived at the hospital after checking into the admit department, I made my way up to the 4th floor waiting room. As soon as I arrived, I was warmly greeted by RN Kathy Lee, who also gave my mother and my aunt the warmest of greetings, shaking both their hands, and a gentle, small hug. Instantly, I saw a smile on their faces. She took us in and got us settled into a nice room in the pre-op area. She made sure we were all comfortable and introduced me to my nurse.
Throughout my stay, Kathy kept checking in on me. Bringing tea to my mom and aunt. Giving them updates to help alleviate their worries. She told them it would be a good idea not to wait in the waiting room for hours on end since it was a four-hour surgery. They took her advice and went to eat lunch briefly outside the hospital, which was a well-needed break. When they returned, she greeted them again and made them feel so important and cared for.
Kathy also made my hospital day so much better. She made sure I was always comfortable, constantly checking on me. She had the most gentle touch. She helped my nurses whenever they needed it to make sure I was receiving excellent care at the exact moment I needed or wanted it. She would sit by my bedside when I was tearful before surgery and reassured me that everyone coming in is scared and that I will be ok. She had a gentle, soft, silent smile that made me feel like all would be ok. I expressed to her that I was scared I would die on the operating table, and my kids would have no mother. And I would cry. She made sure to tell me repeatedly how excellent all the doctors and the anesthesia team were and how confident she felt that they would take the absolute best care of me. It gave me so much comfort to hear that, knowing I was terrified. I believed her and needed her. She was just always there, ready to jump in at any moment for anything I needed.
She bonded with my mom while I was in the OR. My mom needed to talk to my doctor after the surgery, and Kathy made sure he found my mom and gave her all the updates, which is exactly what I needed too. My mom cannot stop talking about her. Kathy Lee turned my entire experience around. I went from a terrified patient to one who felt like everyone around me cared and knew exactly what I wanted and reassured me that all would be ok- that I would go home that night to my three kiddos who still needed a mom to raise them! Words cannot describe the kind of compassionate care she provided. I am so eternally grateful for her presence and gentle care. She embodies everything that a nurse should be and more. I did not expect this type of care from anyone and was unaware it existed. I am so impressed and pleased with my entire experience, and eternally grateful for RN Kathy Lee.
