I have been given the opportunity to observe Kathy in our facility for many years both when I was a student, and then as a co-worker (although she is in a different department). She always has a smile on her face. She is always professional and I never hear her complain. She has withstood many changes in our facility throughout the years and continues to remain loyal to the facility and project a positive attitude. She is consistent in her work ethic and does a fantastic job!
Aside from all of this I had a recent opportunity to get to know her more personally as she was my nurse in an unexpected procedure. She has the ability to immediately calm you and make you feel like you really matter to her. She told me prior to my procedure that she would take good care of me, and honestly, I believed her because I have watched her take very good care of many patients throughout the years. She is someone who typically works behind the scenes and most of the time her patients are asleep while she is their guardian angel watching over them and making sure they get what they need. She is definitely one of a kind.
Just a couple of days ago, I had another procedure (this time it was planned) and honestly, all I had hoped prior to presenting for this was that she would be present with me! While she was not assigned to the room that I was having my procedure in she saw me in the hallway, walked directly up to my cart, greeted me, held my hand, and reassured me with her smile and confidence that everything would be fine and I was in good hands. She escorted me to my room and made sure that I was settled in. She, of course, was right, but just that two minutes of time prior to my procedure really meant a lot to me! She was not obligated to do that, and it certainly wasn't her job that day, but she went out of her way to decrease my anxiety. She is truly a DAISY Nurse!
