When her classmates (or instructor) appear tired and stressed, Kathy comes up with a treat, a funny meme, or a supportive comment.
Kathy has never spoken a negative word since she began the nursing program. She looks for and finds the positive side of every patient, every instructor, every facility and unit, every assignment, and every critique. She is the first to arrive and the last to go home. Any free minute she has will be taken with volunteer work or assisting a classmate. When her classmates (or instructor) appear tired and stressed, Kathy comes up with a treat, a funny meme, or a supportive comment. She is the first to think of surprise parties, birthday celebrations, and share helpful study tips with everyone. She asks those questions that every student has but doesn't quite have the courage to ask. In the clinical setting, both the patients she cares for and the staff with whom she works make a point to let me know what a “joy” she is to have on their unit. I have never witnessed her idle or bored; when she completes her own assignment, she makes herself available for everyone else. She has that rare gift of being able to balance efficiency with thoughtful, unhurried care; a very unusual skill for a new nurse! Our faculty are looking forward to working alongside her in the future. Congratulations, Kathyvan! We are so very proud of you!
