Katie was our nurse the day my fiancé was removed from the vent and given a trach cap to speak. She seemed as excited as we were for this step. The support she provided was immeasurable. Katie was there for everything with the speech therapist, as he drank and ate and spoke. I hadn't heard him speak in 60 days. I turned to cry, she came over, rubbed my back, and gave me Kleenex. That's what I call caring. I am convinced that she was committed to taking excellent care of us. Each time she visited our room, she brought her excitement and seemed as proud of his progress as we were. She brought her A-game to the room every time.
