Katie has been a shining example of "patient advocate". She has been by our side guiding and encouraging us through all of our days. She was quick to involve us in the care of our baby boy from day 1. Even though we couldn't handle our boy like a typical baby, she helped us understand what we could do and empowered us to eventually lead his care and be his "experts". She advocated for us to hold him for the first time and to begin nursing. She was the one to transition him to a big-boy crib and got him his first swing. She made great gifts and crafts from our boy to give to his big sisters. Katie was also there for us and supported us through the setbacks when he was intubated and required emergent surgery when he ended up sick twice with two different viruses. She also helped when feeding took infinitely longer than it seemed it should. She has been our advocate, our supporter, our cheerleader and our friend during the most difficult time of our lives.
