My brother has been hospitalized at Marian Regional for a serious illness that required care on telemetry, critical care, and med-surg units. I have been with him throughout and have found the care he received to be at most times exceptional. One nurse assigned to him in the first, difficult 24 hours, stands out. Her name is Katie Bossoletti. Katie's steady, confident and composed delivery of care over 12 hours helped calm the gathering awareness of my bother's unstable situation. Her demeanor was consistent even with the added responsibility of mentoring a student. She patiently shared her knowledge of shifting labs, and related treatment with me, while never losing sight that my brother, whether able to grasp or not, was the person she most needed to keep informed. I observed her engaging with other members of the health care team with a keen ability to communicate what was needed for my brother's best interest. Her skilled practice was matched with consistent kindness that never wavered throughout the long shift and with the complexities presented by each patient in her care. She models professionalism and made me proud to be a nurse.
