Katie Childs, RN

As someone who was recently admitted to Saint Francis 3 separate times, each time I was here, I encountered Katie and her kindness and received her help in some form or fashion. There were times when Katie was not assigned to me as my primary nurse, and Katie, having met me before and been at my bedside, always made an effort to stop by and check in with me, make sure that I was okay and accommodated, and communicated my needs to her colleagues. Katie made me feel like I truly mattered, which, as a patient, is huge. I have been to so many doctors’ appointments where I feel like another transaction, and Katie restored my faith in good healthcare. 

Katie always made me feel well cared for, safe, and like my symptoms mattered. I have felt like a burden to nursing staff before, and Katie has never made me feel that way, and that’s why I feel as though she needs to be recognized. How a healthcare organization makes its patients feel is so important, and Katie definitely understands and practices that. She has such a passion for her job and patients; she deserves this award 10 times over. Give her all three DAISY Awards!
