My stepdad was in CCU for a week, and after 3 days, we decided comfort care was most appropriate. She was our nurse on Tuesday - the first day we were doing morphine/ativan, and she was so calming and helped explain everything to us. On Thursday, he was still there, and she was back. She continued to provide exceptional care and even spoke with me on the phone to let me know his breathing pattern had changed. When she got off at 7 that day D was rapidly declining. She stayed until 9 that night, giving meds as needed and comforting us as she helped “walk him home.” She made a lasting impact on our family.
