We had a patient whose surgery had to be cancelled. The patient had real emotional reaction and huge family involvement. Extra resources were gathered and Katie stayed 1:1 with this patient and helped to manage family social worker and the caring, compassion and understanding made an enormous difference for this patient.

It could have been "Ok, cancelled, see ya!" Instead, it gave the patient a chance to see self worth and a real future.
